The US International Trade Commission has launched an investigation into Apple, Samsung, and Google regarding potential patent infringements. The probe follows a complaint filed by BoomCloud 360 on August 14, 2026, with an amendment submitted on August 31, 2026. The claimant alleges that these companies utilize its proprietary audio processing technologies without authorization in various electronic devices sold within the United States.
BoomCloud 360 is seeking a Limited Exclusion Order, which could block the import of specific devices from the named defendants. Additionally, the company is requesting cease-and-desist orders to halt sales and related activities. The case, designated as investigation number 337-TA-1521, will be overseen by an administrative law judge who will evaluate evidence regarding potential violations of Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930.
The USITC is expected to set a target date for the investigation's conclusion within 45 days of its initiation. If the commission confirms a violation, the resulting import restrictions would take effect following a final order. These measures could become permanent after a 60-day review period, unless the United States Trade Representative overturns the decision based on public policy considerations.
The official USITC announcement does not specify which particular models from Apple, Samsung, or Google are subject to the investigation. The commission has stated its intention to reach a final determination as quickly as possible.
