Gas stations across the United States are reporting diesel shortages as prices reach record levels. The national average price for diesel has climbed to approximately $6.28 per gallon, with supply constraints most pronounced in California and Texas.
Several factors are driving these shortages, including refinery outages, ongoing international conflicts, and Russia’s ban on diesel exports. This export ban is currently scheduled to remain in effect until the end of September.
The situation is impacting prediction markets focused on crude oil prices. Current data shows only a 1.2% probability that crude oil will hit an all-time high by September 30. Market participants assign a 12.5% likelihood to this scenario occurring by the end of December.
Future market dynamics remain dependent on potential policy shifts from OPEC, the International Energy Agency, and the Saudi Ministry of Energy. Geopolitical developments in Russia and the Middle East continue to be key variables influencing supply and pricing expectations.
