According to a report from Cox Automotive, U.S. electric vehicle sales have increased for three consecutive quarters. This growth follows a period of decline triggered by the cancellation of tax credits last year.
In the third quarter of 2025, electric vehicles accounted for 6.1% of the U.S. market. Analysts attribute this recovery to more competitive pricing and rising gasoline costs, which have boosted consumer interest.
Toyota, Rivian, and Subaru emerged as market leaders. Sales of Toyota bZ and Lexus RZ models roughly doubled after updates introduced larger batteries, more powerful motors, and faster charging capabilities.
Tesla experienced a 20% year-over-year decline in sales. Despite this drop, the company maintained its market position by selling more than half of all electric vehicles during the third quarter.
The U.S. market trend mirrors the recovery observed in Germany. Following the removal of government incentives in November 2023, German sales initially fell by over 50% before steadily rebounding to record levels.
