TSMC is currently in discussions regarding a potential partnership with Elon Musk's Terafab project. The collaboration aims to establish advanced end-to-end semiconductor manufacturing facilities within the United States. The report, initially disclosed by the Culpium newsletter and subsequently confirmed by Elon Musk on X, outlines a joint venture model.

Under the proposed arrangement, TSMC would develop manufacturing capabilities, while Terafab would provide financial support, equity participation, and purchase agreements. These measures are intended to ensure the operational viability of the new fabrication capacity. The project seeks to bolster domestic semiconductor production in the American market.

Terafab has previously established a partnership with Intel, with Tesla identified as the primary customer for the 14A node at the Austin-based AI chip complex. Despite this, details regarding the licensing of the 14A node PDK remain undisclosed. It is noted that TSMC may choose to retain its most advanced nodes in Taiwan, positioning Terafab as a secondary initiative.
