Toyota plans to implement its proprietary gigacasting technology at a new Lexus factory in China. The company is investing $2 billion into the facility, which is currently under construction and scheduled to begin production in 2027.

Chief Technology Officer Hiroki Nakajima confirmed that the casting equipment is developed entirely in-house by Toyota. The company is currently conducting validation tests for this technology in Japan to ensure its readiness for large-scale manufacturing.

This initiative represents Toyota's first official deployment of ultra-large casting machinery. The move is part of a broader strategy to modernize manufacturing processes and improve production efficiency for electric vehicles.

Beyond the casting project, Toyota is investing billions of dollars to enhance factory automation. The goal is to significantly reduce the development and production cycles for new vehicle models across its diverse powertrain lineup.
