Toyota has officially announced the return of the Celica nameplate to the World Rally Championship. The new GR Celica is scheduled to compete in the 2027 WRC season, running alongside the next-generation GR Yaris rally car.

The development of both rally vehicles is currently underway at the Toyota rally headquarters located in Jyväskylä, Finland. Under the new 2027 technical regulations, both models are expected to deliver equal power and performance.

The manufacturer plans to complete the homologation process for both cars before the end of 2026. The GR Celica will be driven by a team consisting of Elfyn Evans, Oliver Solberg, and Sami Pajari, while the GR Yaris team will feature Ott Tänak, Takamoto Katsuta, and Kalle Rovanperä.

While Toyota has not confirmed a production version of the Celica for public roads, the rally program announcement follows sightings of a two-door prototype undergoing testing in Portugal earlier this year.
