Tether has led a pre-seed funding round for the Bolivian fintech company Peso. The investment aims to facilitate the expansion of Peso’s stablecoin payment infrastructure across four Latin American markets: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina.

Peso provides services that link USDT to local banking networks and merchant payment systems. The company has already integrated USDT payments into the Yango food delivery service in Bolivia, enabling customers to pay for orders with the stablecoin.

The fintech platform offers various financial tools, including QR code payments, point-of-sale services for merchants, and virtual accounts connected to the local banking system via ACH transfers. The specific financial terms of the investment were not disclosed by Tether.

This development follows a trend of increasing stablecoin adoption in Bolivia, which has faced a persistent shortage of US dollars and high inflation since 2025. Businesses have increasingly turned to USDT as a substitute for foreign currency.

The Bolivian government has taken steps to integrate digital assets into the national financial system. In November 2025, authorities announced plans to allow banks to offer crypto-linked products, and in July 2026, they began considering a framework to recognize USDT for trade and savings.
