Elon Musk confirmed that owners of the new Tesla Roadster will be able to command the vehicle to perform autonomous stunts, similar to those demonstrated at recent events. The car utilizes a drive-by-wire system, cold-gas thrusters for attitude control, and a fan system designed to generate suction for inverted driving.
Musk also announced plans to construct a challenging circular test track at Tesla's Texas headquarters. While specific details regarding the track's location, scale, or opening date remain undisclosed, the company intends to use the facility for customer test drives.
Production of the Roadster is currently scheduled for 2027 or 2028 at the Texas Gigafactory. Tesla noted that the vehicle is not yet approved for public road use, and the specialized rocket-equipped version will be available by invitation only.
The company has not provided a timeline for the release of the autonomous stunt software or further technical details on the vehicle's perception capabilities. Shareholders may seek additional information during the Q3 earnings call scheduled for October 21.
