Tencent has launched an invitation-only beta test for the HarmonyOS version of WeChat, specifically version 8.0.22.46. The testing period for this update runs from October 21, 2026, to November 20, 2026. Users are required to receive an SMS notification containing a link to proceed with the installation via the Huawei App Gallery.
The official changelog for this release notes the resolution of known issues. However, users have identified several functional updates. These include new notification settings for private messages, expanded contact information fields, and changes to the 'Likes and Favorites' section in the Channels feature. Users can now also interact with long, collapsed text messages by clicking on embedded links.
New productivity and interaction features have been added to the platform. Users can now utilize the Celia assistant to send messages to individual contacts. Group calls now support document presentation and annotation. Additionally, various chat notifications, such as recall alerts and red packet prompts, can now be deleted via a long-press action.
The update introduces improvements to the wallet and customer service interface, allowing users to select specific orders for support inquiries. Furthermore, the application now supports viewing video-based Moments covers for both the user and their contacts. These features are currently being rolled out to beta participants.
