Synopsys has officially partnered with OpenAI to develop a new AI model, GPT-Synopsys. This multi-year strategic agreement focuses on integrating OpenAI technology with Synopsys electronic design automation tools to automate tasks such as PPA optimization, timing, and verification.
The collaboration includes joint research, development, licensing, and revenue-sharing arrangements. Early engagements for the new technology are already underway, building upon the company existing AI-driven platforms, Autopilot and AgentEngineer.
Synopsys currently reports over 50 active collaboration projects using its existing AI platforms. According to the company, these tools have enabled clients to achieve up to 50x faster verification closure and a 30% increase in overall project productivity.
While social media reports recently suggested that Synopsys plans to collaborate with Chinese AI labs, the company has not confirmed any such deals. Synopsys continues to focus on its established partnerships with major semiconductor firms like TSMC, Samsung, Nvidia, and Intel.
The company recently expanded its presence in China by opening a larger office and R&D center in Shanghai in late 2026. However, this investment is intended to support local partners and does not verify the rumored AI laboratory partnerships.
