Suno has introduced the Suno v6 model family, developed using licensed data from music labels and distributors including Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe. The company is replacing its older models with this new lineup to address copyright concerns, as it had previously admitted to training models using YouTube videos.
The release includes three versions: the base Suno v6 model for paying users, focusing on reliability and steerable outputs; Suno v6 wild, an experimental version for paying users aimed at ideation; and Suno v6 mini, a faster version accessible to all users.
New technical capabilities include the ability to edit song parts via prompts or lyrics, using text, images, or video as references for track creation, and separating instruments from samples to create new beats. The company also plans to add a remixing feature for songs where artists opt-in through a new program with music labels.
To manage ecosystem challenges like streaming fraud and mass uploads, Suno is implementing watermarks on generated songs and introducing download limits based on account tiers. According to PitchBook data, the startup has raised over $819 million in funding to date.
