The Moscow-based company Steplife has developed the first Russian bionic foot featuring microprocessor control. The device, named Bionic Cross, utilizes artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically adjust movement, allowing for natural gait and improved balance. The product is designed to support users weighing up to 125 kg during various activities, including walking, cycling, running, and high-intensity strength training.
The hardware is built with dust and moisture protection. According to CEO Ivan Khudyakov, the company developed the software and algorithms in-house, leveraging their previous experience with microprocessor-controlled knee modules. The manufacturer plans to launch mass production of the bionic foot in early 2027.
Anatoly Garbuzov, head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of Moscow, noted that over 230 companies in the city currently produce medical devices. The development of domestic products with intelligent control systems is considered a key step in reducing reliance on foreign technology and advancing the local healthcare sector.
