A Steam Deck OLED console, lost on an Amtrak train, has been returned to its owner after a nine-month search. The device was initially found by the mother-in-law of Reddit user vgalz, who later took charge of locating the owner.

The search process involved contacting Steam support and posting in various online communities, including those dedicated to Steam Deck and Amtrak. Steam support declined to facilitate direct contact with the account owner, citing privacy policies, and advised reporting the item to local police.

The breakthrough occurred when vgalz identified a Reddit post from nine months ago where the owner reported the device lost in Alexandria. After verifying the details, the console was successfully mailed back to the owner.

During the nine months the device was missing, the market price of the Steam Deck OLED model increased. Another Reddit user gifted vgalz a game as a gesture of appreciation for her efforts in finding the original owner.
