Developers have released open-source themes for the Steam Deck handheld, allowing users to replicate the user interface styles of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. These projects aim to provide users with alternative visual experiences on the Valve device.
The PS5-inspired theme, titled decky-ps5-dashboard, organizes game icons horizontally at the top of the screen. It dynamically updates the background based on the selected title and displays specific metrics such as total playtime and achievement progress, mirroring the layout of the Sony console dashboard.
The Xbox-style interface, decky-xbox-dashboard, utilizes a vertical pagination layout. When users select an item, it expands to reveal detailed information, including current progress and estimated completion time. The settings menu adopts a card-based design similar to the Microsoft system, offering options to pin shortcuts, adjust color schemes, and reduce animations.
To deploy these interfaces, users must first install Decky Loader, a plugin management tool designed for SteamOS. Once installed, the custom themes can be applied directly through the system. As these are third-party projects, functionality and compatibility depend on specific plugin versions and ongoing SteamOS updates.
