Starlink is launching a program to replace original circular satellite dishes with modern Standard kits for its earliest customers. The offer includes a new rectangular antenna, a Router 3, a power supply, and cables, along with a mounting kit and optional free professional installation.
The new Standard 4X hardware is significantly lighter and more compact than the original equipment. The circular terminal weighs 7.3 kg with a 58 cm diameter, while the rectangular version weighs 4.2 kg and measures 30 cm in width. The company transitioned to flat antennas in 2021.
This initiative follows a previous hardware upgrade program where SpaceX provided free Router Mini units to users of first-generation routers after ending software support for the older devices. The Router Mini was valued at approximately $40.
The upgrade offer coincides with shifts in Starlink's pricing model. The company recently discontinued free equipment rentals for Residential plans, introducing a monthly fee of $10 for hardware. SpaceX has not yet disclosed the number of eligible users or the timeline for the rollout.
