Anthropic has launched a research preview of Claude Duet, an AI agent built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model. Designed for professionals and small business owners, the tool operates in the cloud, allowing it to function independently of a user's computer or smartphone status.

The agent integrates with over 6,000 connectors and plugins from the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail, Slack, Shopify, and Stripe. It performs tasks such as drafting documents and managing communications. For sensitive actions like payments or signing contracts, the agent requires explicit user authorization.

Claude Duet is currently available to Pro and Max subscribers in the United States via a waitlist. It does not require a separate fee but consumes the user's existing Claude usage limits. The company has not announced a timeline for international availability or support for Team and Enterprise plans.

Security measures include a browser-based virtual machine environment and a dedicated safety classifier to prevent the unauthorized sharing of financial or personal data. Anthropic notes that the agent is still in testing and may occasionally misinterpret tasks or miss events between its periodic background checks.
