Sophon, an entertainment-focused Layer 2 network built on zkSync, has announced the shutdown of its mainnet. Users must withdraw all assets by November 25, 2026, as the network will officially go offline on November 30, 2026. After this date, bridges and RPC nodes will be retired, potentially making remaining assets inaccessible.
The decision follows a strategic shift after developers determined that maintaining a standalone blockchain was not financially sustainable. The project incurred annual operational costs of approximately $3.4 million. New deposits were disabled on June 25, 2026, and users are now required to claim outstanding staking and Guardian rewards.
The team is pivoting to develop consumer finance and AI applications on Base, the Layer 2 network from Coinbase. Their first project in this new direction is a gamified neofinance app called Pyre. The SOPH token, which previously functioned for gas and staking, will now be tied to revenue from Base-based products to fund buybacks and burns.
Sophon previously raised between $60 million and $70 million in funding. Currently, the SOPH token trades between $0.0018 and $0.002, with a market capitalization ranging from $9 million to $10 million. The total supply of the token remains fixed at 10 billion.
