Sophon has officially set November 25 as the final deadline for users to withdraw their assets from its network. This decision follows the company's earlier announcement in June regarding the discontinuation of its standalone Ethereum layer-2 blockchain. The team stated that the costs associated with maintaining the infrastructure no longer provided sufficient benefits.
Starting November 25, the project will begin shutting down its core infrastructure and associated websites. Users are urged to withdraw all holdings, including SOPH, ETH, and USDC, as well as any pending staking or Guardian rewards. The company warned that any assets remaining on the Sophon Chain after this date may become permanently inaccessible.
The project originally launched as a zero-knowledge-powered layer-2 network targeting consumer applications such as gaming, entertainment, and AI. Following the shutdown, the developers plan to pivot their focus toward consumer finance and AI-related applications on the Base network.
The move follows a similar industry trend, including the recent closure of the Abstract network by Igloo, which cited losses of tens of millions of dollars. Sophon previously secured $60 million through a node sale in 2024, in addition to a separate funding round that raised $10 million.
