The rehabilitation trustee for the Mt. Gox estate, Nobuaki Kobayashi, announced a new deadline for creditor repayments on October 16, 2026. The Japanese court approved moving the final date for all repayment categories to October 31, 2027.

The extension follows previous deadlines set for October 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. The delay is attributed to incomplete procedures by some creditors and technical difficulties in processing payments.

The total planned distribution from the estate includes approximately 142,000 BTC, 143,000 BCH, and ¥69 billion in cash. Repayments began in July 2024 through intermediaries such as Kraken, Bitstamp, and BitGo.

As of mid-2026, the trustee still holds between 34,000 and 34,500 BTC, which represents about one-quarter of the total Bitcoin earmarked for distribution. The exchange originally collapsed in 2014 following a hack involving 850,000 BTC.

The new deadline serves as an outer limit rather than a fixed schedule for individual distributions. Payments may continue to be issued in batches before October 2027 as creditors complete the required verification steps.
