The Sony WH-1000XM4C headphones feature a design and 40mm driver inherited from the 2020 WH-1000XM4 model. They utilize the QN1 processor for active noise cancellation and support SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs. The device includes a 3.5mm jack for wired audio, though it lacks USB-C audio support and does not include a USB-C charging cable in the package.

The updated model offers 27 hours of battery life with ANC enabled, compared to 30 hours in the original XM4. A key design change is the inclusion of a user-replaceable battery, introduced to comply with upcoming EU regulations. However, Sony has not provided instructions or replacement parts for North American customers at this time.

The headphones feature capacitive touch controls on the right ear cup and a 10-band EQ available via the Sony Sound Connect app. While the XM4C lacks Bluetooth LE and Auracast support at launch, the device maintains the foldable form factor and includes a hard-shell carrying case. The retail price for the new model is set at $300.
