According to industry leaker Kepler_L2, the upcoming Sony PlayStation 6 console may outperform Nvidia's future mid-range graphics card, the RTX 6060. Performance projections suggest the PS6 could reach levels comparable to the RTX 5070 Ti or even the RTX 5080.
The release timeline for these components remains a key point of discussion. Sony is expected to launch the PS6 in late 2027, marking seven years since the debut of the current generation. In contrast, the Nvidia RTX 6060 might not hit the market until 2029, as Nvidia typically prioritizes high-end cards in its release cycles.
Nvidia's strategy for the RTX 50 series followed a similar pattern, with high-end models like the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 launching in January, followed by the lower-end RTX 5060 in May. Kepler_L2 suggests the RTX 60 series will likely adhere to this staggered release schedule, delaying mid-range options further.
Current generation consoles are generally compared to older desktop GPUs like the RTX 2070 Super or RTX 4060. The projected performance of the PS6 represents a significant shift, as it aims to surpass the capabilities of Nvidia's mid-range offerings, unlike the current hardware generation.
