Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a patent for a technology called Generation Super Sampling, identified as US-20260320740-A1. The system utilizes data from controller inputs to predict visual changes and employs a proprietary AI model to generate interpolated frames, aiming to reduce latency and stuttering.

The patent explores the potential for multi-frame generation, allowing the system to predict multiple frames before or after the input frame. This approach mirrors techniques currently utilized in NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards, which can generate several intermediate frames between traditionally rendered ones.

The document notes that the practical application of multi-frame generation on consoles remains a subject of discussion, as most televisions are limited to a 120Hz refresh rate. Sony suggests that if implemented in the PlayStation 6, the feature would likely be optional for users to enable or disable based on their preferences.

Sony has recently filed several other patents related to future PlayStation functionality. These include an AI agent designed to monitor console performance and deploy fixes, as well as a patent for integrating an NFC reader into the controller to facilitate payments via bank cards or mobile devices.
