The upcoming Sony PlayStation handheld console may become the only portable device featuring an integrated GPU based on the AMD RDNA 5 architecture. Reports from Digital Foundry suggest Sony holds exclusive rights to this architecture for its new portable system.

However, industry insiders clarify that this exclusivity stems from AMD's changing strategy regarding semi-custom chip development. The company is becoming more selective with its engineering resources for niche hardware projects.

AMD reportedly requires high volume commitments for custom silicon, as evidenced by a demand for 10 million chips for a potential portable Xbox. Given these requirements, Sony may be the only manufacturer capable of meeting such conditions.
