Sony has introduced QSSR (Quick Spectral Super Resolution), an AI-based upscaling technology designed specifically for the standard PlayStation 5 console. This development follows the company's collaboration with AMD on the Amethyst project, which aimed to adapt the PSSR technology found in the PS5 Pro for the base model's architecture.

The new QSSR solution utilizes a simplified neural network architecture and is optimized for the hardware performance of the standard PS5. According to Sony, the technology enhances image detail and stability, while reducing artifacts such as those typically seen in moving foliage. It also improves sub-pixel integrity.

The first titles to support QSSR are Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, with updates for both games rolling out today. While QSSR provides noticeable improvements in image quality, analysts from Digital Foundry noted that the visual impact is less pronounced in titles that already feature high-quality graphics, such as Ghost of Yōtei.
