Solidigm, a subsidiary of SK hynix, is reportedly planning a new NAND flash memory manufacturing facility in the United States. The proposed investment for this project is estimated at $45 billion. The company has indicated to the U.S. Department of Commerce that its total long-term investment in domestic manufacturing could eventually reach $100 billion, with construction in New York potentially starting in 2027.

The company is seeking U.S. government approval to export equipment to its existing Dalian plant in China to facilitate facility upgrades. Solidigm suggests that these upgrades could be mutually beneficial, potentially supporting the funding of the new U.S. factory. However, obtaining permission for such equipment shipments remains uncertain due to current export restrictions.

Market conditions have influenced recent corporate decisions, including the cancellation of a planned Solidigm IPO earlier this week. The company reported recent revenues of $75 billion, with $60 billion in operating profit and $28 billion in net profit. Solidigm also warned that global memory shortages are expected to persist through 2030.
