At the Goldman Sachs 2026 Communacopia + Technology conference, Shopify executives Jeff Hoffmeister and Archie Abrams discussed the impact of agentic commerce on their platform. They noted that AI-driven search tools lead to an 80% increase in conversion rates for merchants.
Hoffmeister explained that users starting searches via LLMs are 2.5 times more likely to land directly on a specific product page rather than a general website section. This direct routing facilitates a more efficient path to purchase for consumers across various AI agents.
Shopify is integrating its catalog taxonomy with external LLM engines to provide real-time pricing and inventory data. This strategy aims to help small businesses compete with larger market players while the company manages token costs through prompt caching and open-source models.
The platform continues to focus on early-stage entrepreneurship, with over 40% of active storefronts created by repeat founders. Executives emphasized that AI tools like Sidekick allow entrepreneurs to focus on a single core skill, such as product design, while automating marketing and operations.
