Sheba Medical Center in Israel has announced the adoption of OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Healthcare platform. This makes it the first hospital outside the United States to implement the specialized AI tool across its clinical, research, and administrative departments.

The platform is designed to assist clinicians in synthesizing medical literature, checking for drug interactions, and summarizing clinical guidelines. Sheba intends to integrate its own institutional protocols into the system to align with existing workflows.

The partnership includes a strict zero-data-retention policy, ensuring no patient information is stored or used to train OpenAI models. Doctors retain full authority over all final medical decisions, as the AI is limited to providing suggestions and summaries.

The deployment will occur in phases. In August 2026, a delegation from the hospital will visit OpenAI headquarters to deepen the collaboration, gain early access to future models, and provide clinical feedback for product development.
