Sextant, a desktop Kubernetes client built on Rust and Tauri 2, has released versions 0.12 through 0.19. The tool serves as an alternative to Lens, operating without user accounts, subscriptions, or telemetry, and includes a built-in MCP server for AI agents.
The latest updates introduce features such as image file inspection directly from the registry, traffic graph visualization between services, and cost monitoring via OpenCost. New diagnostic tools allow users to troubleshoot service traffic issues and identify best practice violations without deploying extra pods.
The client now supports management for various operators including Argo Rollouts, Argo Workflows, Knative, and Crossplane. Users can also manage kubeconfig files, utilize a YAML editor with cluster schema auto-completion, and configure custom columns based on labels or annotations.
Sextant includes safety mechanisms for network operations and resource management. It avoids automatic changes to clusters, provides clear 'Unknown' statuses when data is insufficient, and implements security limits for registry access to prevent potential vulnerabilities.
