The OpenBSD project has launched version 8.0, marking its 61st release since the project began in 1996. Founder Theo de Raadt emphasized the system's security record, noting only two remote vulnerabilities in the default installation over three decades.

A key update in this release is the support for Intel Arc A-Series graphics cards, specifically the DG2/Alchemist architecture. Additionally, the kernel virtual address space on AMD64 systems has been expanded from 4 GB to 512 GB, enabling the mapping of more than 4 GB of VRAM.

The update introduces hibernation support for ARM64 systems and a new RPKI-to-router daemon, rtrd(8). RISC-V architecture received kernel support for the 'V' vector extension and the Advanced Interrupt Architecture.

Virtualization capabilities have been enhanced, with the vmm/vmd stack now supporting up to 64 virtual CPUs per guest virtual machine. The release also includes updates to LibreSSL 4.4.0 and OpenSSH 10.6, alongside improvements to wireless drivers like qwx(4).
