Seattle plans to install up to 200 public Level 2 curbside EV charging stations by 2030. The initiative, led by Seattle City Light and the Seattle Department of Transportation, aims to support residents living in apartments or homes without off-street parking. The city will prioritize neighborhoods that currently have the fewest charging options available.
The new chargers will provide approximately 12 to 30 miles of range per hour, depending on the vehicle. Currently, Seattle City Light charges $0.21 per kilowatt-hour for its Level 2 stations. The project follows a successful pilot program conducted at 31 locations between 2023 and 2024, which received positive community feedback.
Funding for the expansion comes from a transportation levy approved by voters in 2024. Residents can submit requests for new charger locations through the official program website. Applications will be accepted until the fall of 2027, with the city selecting sites based on existing infrastructure, environmental goals, and coverage gaps.
The city will begin the installation process in the fall of 2027. Work is scheduled to continue through 2030. Each selected site will be open to the general public, providing a convenient alternative for those who rely on street parking for their electric vehicles.
