Chery has unveiled its Volt-dragon charging system, featuring a peak power output of 1.44 MW. The company claims this technology enables vehicles to recover 500 km of range in 5 minutes, with a 10% to 97% charge taking 6 minutes and 50 seconds.
The system utilizes silicon carbide power electronics, achieving a 96.5% grid-to-plug efficiency. To manage thermal loads, the stations employ immersion liquid cooling, while the cable and plug assembly is designed to weigh 2 kg. The equipment operates at a noise level of 50 dBA.
The charging infrastructure supports Vehicle-to-grid technology, allowing for electricity export. Chery also plans to integrate robotic arms for automated charging. The system is intended for vehicles built on 800V or 1000V-plus platforms.
Chery announced the launch of 100 Volt-dragon stations across 10 cities in China, with further expansion details expected by the end of 2026. The company aims to deploy over 20,000 stations globally by 2029.
