Samsung plans to equip the upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra models with the latest M16 OLED material set. This marks the first time Samsung will utilize its M16 technology in its own flagship smartphones, following its adoption by other manufacturers in devices like the iPhone 18 Pro and Pixel 11 series.
The standard Galaxy S27 and S27+ models will also receive an upgrade, transitioning from the M13 material used in previous generations to the M14 OLED material. This shift represents the first time the M14 generation has been integrated into the base models of the Galaxy S series.
Samsung aims to differentiate its product lineup by applying distinct display technologies. While the Pro and Ultra models feature the advanced M16 material, the standard and Plus versions will rely on the mature M14 solution, alongside potential additions like color filter encapsulation and privacy display features.
The Galaxy S27 series is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2027. The lineup includes four models with varying screen sizes: 6.27 inches for the standard version, 6.66 inches for the S27+, 6.47 inches for the S27 Pro, and 6.89 inches for the S27 Ultra, with Samsung Display serving as the sole supplier.
This hardware update is expected to influence future product lines, including the Galaxy Z9 series, which may see a material upgrade in the second half of 2027. The strategy allows Samsung to maintain competitiveness against rivals while optimizing costs across its flagship portfolio.
