The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has imposed a fine of ₩20 billion, approximately $15.1 million, on Samsung. The regulator penalized the company for misleading consumers regarding the gaming performance of its Galaxy S21 and S22 smartphone series, as well as the Tab S8 tablet line.

According to the KFTC, Samsung failed to disclose that the Game Optimizing Service (GOS) automatically throttles CPU and GPU performance during intensive gaming sessions. This mechanism, designed to maintain safe temperatures, caused performance drops, lag, and reduced graphical quality, contradicting the company's marketing claims of providing maximum mobile gaming capabilities.

Samsung plans to appeal the decision, maintaining that GOS is a safety feature intended to ensure system stability. The company also noted that it released a software update in March 2022 that allows users to disable these performance restrictions and stated that previous legal disputes regarding the GOS service have already been resolved or dismissed.
