Samsung is currently developing an advanced facial recognition system designed to be integrated beneath OLED displays. According to reports from Schrödinger's Leaks, the company has resumed testing the technology after earlier rumors suggested the project might be canceled.

The system utilizes Polar ID technology from Metalenz, which analyzes the polarization characteristics of light reflected from a user's face. This method captures additional biometric data and verifies liveness, making it significantly harder to bypass the security with photographs or masks.

A key advantage of this approach is the ability to place components under the screen, eliminating the need for large cutouts like those found on iPhone devices. Samsung intends to rebrand the technology for its own ecosystem, with potential names including Facial Recognition 2.0 or Facial Recognition Pro.

Despite the progress in testing, the technology is not expected to debut in the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra. The source of this information, the insider Schrodinger, previously provided accurate details regarding the Galaxy S26 Plus and early concepts for the iPhone 20.
