Samsung has introduced the Portable SSD P9, the company's first external drive utilizing the USB4 interface. The device is designed for content creators and professionals, offering sequential read speeds of up to 4,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 3,800 MB/s.

The drive is available in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB capacities. Pricing is set at $339 for the 1TB model, $649 for the 2TB version, and $2,879 for the 8TB variant. The P9 features a metal shell and measures 3.5 x 2.6 x 0.3 inches, weighing 0.21 pounds.

The P9 includes a 16-inch braided USB-C cable and supports 256-bit hardware encryption via the Samsung Magician software. The drive utilizes a metal chassis with a rubberized base for stability, replacing the textured coating found on the previous T9 model.

In performance testing, the P9 demonstrated competitive sustained write speeds, maintaining performance between 2,200 MB/s and 2,400 MB/s after initial cache saturation. The drive outperformed the Corsair EX400U in most benchmarks conducted on a USB4-enabled testbed.
