SAIC Volkswagen has officially rolled out the first ID. ERA 5X vehicle from its production line. This model marks the debut of the company's new CMP platform, which was developed specifically for the Chinese market. The vehicle is scheduled for an official market launch in November.

The CMP platform supports both battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. All vehicles built on this architecture will feature the Volkswagen CEA electronic and electrical system, integrating hardware and software. Key features include AI-powered cockpits and advanced Level 2 driver assistance systems.

The ID. ERA 5X is equipped with a 4nm cockpit processor and roof-mounted LiDAR, utilizing the CoreTech Hyper Sense 8 end-to-end large model. The platform design improves interior space efficiency, achieving a utilization rate of approximately 85 percent or higher compared to the previous MEB platform.

The platform incorporates a new thermal management system using direct heat pump technology to regulate the cabin, battery, and motor temperatures. Safety features include a standard high-voltage fuse that disconnects the battery in milliseconds during an accident. Volkswagen plans to release six models based on the CMP platform in China.
