The Russian Ministry of Digital Development and the Ministry of Defense are currently developing security measures for data centers. This initiative follows a series of drone attacks on Yandex facilities located in Sasovo, Kaluga, and Vladimir, which caused disruptions across multiple services, including Yandex Go, Yandex Eda, Yandex Pay, Yandex Music, Kinopoisk, and Delivery Club.
Minister of Digital Development Maksut Shadaev confirmed that the ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Defense to enhance the protection of Yandex infrastructure. Despite the scale of the attacks, the company managed to maintain service operations through existing redundancy protocols, with support from the broader Russian IT industry.
Data center attacks began in early October 2026, with a third incident reported on October 11. Previous strikes on October 8 and 9 led to the shutdown of a facility in the Ryazan region and damage to modules in a Kaluga data center. These events follow a period during the summer of 2026 when drone strikes primarily targeted warehouses belonging to major marketplaces like Wildberries and Ozon.
