A new consortium has been formed in Russia to integrate autonomous technologies into road construction. The agreement was signed by six organizations, including Gazpromneft-Road Construction, ROSDORNII, the Russian University of Transport, the Digital Era of Transport association, the R.O.S.ASFALT association, and the Rybinsk Road Machinery plant.
The partners intend to develop robotic solutions and digital tools, including virtual and augmented reality simulators for heavy machinery. These technologies aim to improve data collection during the design phase, enhance monitoring of construction progress, and reduce project timelines.
The initiative involves creating a unified digital platform to process telemetry and sensor data from autonomous vehicles. This system is designed to monitor road paving quality and operational efficiency, providing a foundation for scaling these technologies across the country.
Industry experts emphasize that the transition to highly automated road construction requires updating current standards and developing new educational programs. The project aims to combine the expertise of equipment manufacturers, software developers, and scientific institutions.
