The PD-8 turbofan engine entered serial production in August 2026. Its development took approximately six years and focused on the fully import-substituted passenger aircraft SJ-100, with potential use for the Be-200 amphibian aircraft.
Rostec reported that the project required the mastery of 25 critical technologies and materials, 17 of which are entirely new. The engine features a supersonic high-pressure turbine stage with a total pressure reduction ratio of about 4.
Technical improvements include minimized radial clearances in the turbomachine and new heat-resistant materials for the gas generator. These components are designed to operate under extreme temperatures and mechanical loads, supported by new cooling solutions for high-heat components.
