The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade is exploring opportunities to partner with Indian entities to export domestic CAD software and outsource the manufacturing of Russian electronic components. The initiative aims to expand export channels for local technology firms.
The project is managed by the Digital Industrial Technologies agency, which coordinates with digital attachés. This service, launched in 2023 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Digital Development, currently operates in 35 countries, including India, China, and the UAE.
Industry experts note that while Russian engineering software is competitive, entering the Indian market requires significant investment in localization, user training, and support. Some suggest focusing on chemical and rare-earth materials, where India has established infrastructure.
Challenges include high market saturation in India and logistical difficulties compared to post-Soviet regions. Representatives from major Russian electronics companies, including Yadro, Aquarius, and Baikal Electronics, have declined to comment on the potential partnership.
