Roscosmos head Dmitry Bakanov announced the decision to extend Russia's participation in the International Space Station program until 2030. This decision follows a request from American partners to prolong the station's operation beyond the previously planned 2028 deadline.
Bakanov noted that this extension will not affect the timeline for developing Russia's own orbital station, as both projects are being pursued in parallel. The technical condition of the ISS remains a factor, as the Zvezda module has been in operation for over 26 years, exceeding its initial 15-year design life.
In addition to the ISS, Russia is expanding its domestic satellite constellation. According to Roscosmos, the current orbital infrastructure includes nearly 400 satellites, with 60 new units launched within the current year to support communications and Earth observation services.
