Russia and Belarus are developing a joint satellite constellation consisting of three research spacecraft. The project is being implemented under the Union State program, which is scheduled to conclude in December 2026. Preparations for the launch are set to begin in 2027, with the final deployment into orbit planned for 2028.

The satellites will feature inter-satellite communication capabilities, allowing them to exchange data and transmit information to Earth either directly or through a neighboring unit. This system enables one satellite to relay commands to another, providing a redundancy mechanism for mission control.

The Belarusian satellite will focus on ionospheric research. The collected data will be used to study ionospheric storms that can disrupt long-wave radio transmission and impact energy infrastructure. Specifically, the findings are intended to support the operational needs of the Belarusian NPP.
