Rivian has launched its Autonomy Early Access Program, inviting a select group of owners to test the new Point to Point feature. This system allows vehicles to navigate turns, highway merges, and surface streets along a planned route while under constant driver supervision. The technology functions as a Level 2 driver assistance system, utilizing a 360-degree sensor suite and the company's proprietary Large Driving Model software.
Participation is currently limited to owners of Gen 2 R1 or R2 models with an active Autonomy+ subscription. The program excludes owners of Gen 1 R1 trucks and customers based in Canada. Interested users can apply through their Rivian account portal, though selection depends on factors such as previous usage of autonomy features, safety records, and geographic diversity.
Selected testers must commit to weekly usage of the software, submit regular reports, and complete monthly surveys. Participants are also required to share camera and location data under a non-disclosure agreement. Rivian reserves the right to remove users from the program every 30 days without prior notice, and participation is unpaid.
The company aims to gather real-world data from this initial group to refine the software before a wider release. While the first public preview is tracking for a year-end launch, the broader rollout for all Autonomy+ subscribers is scheduled for 2027. Rivian is using interest from regions outside of California and Florida to help determine the next phase of the rollout.
