The Retro486 project is a browser-based emulator for the Intel 80486DX2-66 processor, developed using pure JavaScript. It operates without external dependencies and allows users to run DOS-based software directly in a web browser.
The interface features modular tabs for system configuration, including a CRT monitor simulation with display options like scanlines and phosphor color modes. Users can manage motherboard settings, expansion cards, and storage devices.
The emulator includes a pre-configured set of hardware, such as a VLB graphics card and a Sound Blaster 16 ISA card. A Custom Card Studio tab is provided for testing and creating additional expansion cards.
The system supports browser persistence, allowing settings to be saved between sessions. It automatically caches ROMs, floppy images, and user-uploaded .img or .iso files for continued use.
The System & Diagnostics tab enables users to switch CPU models and inspect system components, including RAM, VRAM, BIOS, and CPU registers. The project is currently in version 0.1 and is hosted on GitHub.
