The Arduview handheld console has successfully reached its crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter. Designed by Louis Huang, a student at Babson College, the device is notable for its fully transparent design, which includes both the casing and the OLED screen. When powered off, the display resembles a piece of glass, while active pixels glow cyan, allowing users to view gameplay from the back of the device.
Built on the open-source Arduboy platform, the console features an ATmega32u4 microcontroller and weighs approximately 50 grams. It comes pre-loaded with 400 8-bit games and allows users to modify the hardware or flash custom software. The device lacks Wi-Fi and an app store, relying on a USB-C port for charging and data transfers.
Early backers on Kickstarter can purchase the device at tiered price points of HKD 573, HKD 692, or HKD 770. Following the conclusion of the campaign, which has 38 days remaining, the retail price is set at HKD 1,159. The project emphasizes accessibility, encouraging users to disassemble and customize the internal components.
