DJ and producer Reinier Zonneveld has launched GasLab, a generative AI music platform, following a $1 million pre-seed funding round. The startup aims to provide a transparent system for AI-generated music that credits and compensates original artists.
Investors in the round include Bitpanda co-founder Eric Demuth and WeTransfer founder Bas Beerens, alongside other European entrepreneurs. The capital will support the company's development as it seeks to become a global platform for fair AI music generation.
The core team consists of Zonneveld, his business partner Cas Luuring, and former VC partner and Uber general manager Thijs Emondts. The founders began exploring machine learning eight years ago, eventually developing Zonneveld's proprietary AI model, R2.
GasLab utilizes a proprietary technology called Digital Notary to track which artists and labels contributed to AI-generated tracks. The system assigns economic rights to contributors, ensuring they receive a share of revenue generated from subscriptions or releases.
The platform is currently preparing for a public launch and is accepting sign-ups for private testing. The company also plans to offer its attribution engine as a service to other generative AI platforms.
