Qualcomm has unveiled two new flagship mobile platforms, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, designed for local AI model execution. Both systems are built on a 2nm process and feature Qualcomm Oryon CPU cores with frequencies reaching 5 GHz, Adreno graphics, and the Hexagon NPU.
The integrated Qualcomm Sensing Hub supports models with up to 200 million parameters, enabling personalized AI agents to adapt to user habits directly on the device. The Extreme version supports models with 30 billion parameters using the Mixture-of-Experts architecture. Additionally, the platform includes the new Element Accelerator for improved inference efficiency.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 supports 8K video recording at 60 fps and 4K slow-motion at 240 fps, alongside the Advanced Professional Video codec. The Adreno GPU includes matrix cores for AI-driven image scaling and frame generation. AI Voice Bubble technology is also included to isolate human speech from ambient noise.
Major smartphone manufacturers, including HONOR, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo, and Xiaomi, are set to release devices powered by these new platforms. Motorola has already announced the Signature 27 model, which will utilize the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset.
