Negotiations between Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics regarding semiconductor manufacturing contracts have stalled. The discussions reportedly reached an impasse due to disagreements over pricing for the 2nm process node.
Samsung is currently utilizing its 2nm technology for its own Exynos 2600 mobile processors. The company has also secured orders for this process from external clients, specifically for Tesla AI5 and AI6 chips.
Previously, Samsung adopted a low-margin strategy to attract customers and compete with TSMC. However, the company is now experiencing high demand for its advanced manufacturing capacity, which has limited its willingness to offer price concessions.
Samsung reportedly views the order volume proposed by Qualcomm as insufficient to justify significant price reductions. Consequently, the foundry division currently lacks the incentive to lower costs for the client.
