Andy Nguyen, the lead developer of the PS5 Linux project, announced his departure from the console hacking scene. He stated that he is ceasing all work on Linux adaptation for the PlayStation 5, including his planned support for the upcoming PS5 Pro model.
The decision follows the discovery of a critical hypervisor vulnerability in the PS5 Pro. According to Nguyen, other researchers reported this flaw to Sony immediately, despite his request to delay the disclosure until the release of GTA 6. He argued that this would have allowed users to enjoy Linux on the console for a longer period.
Nguyen expressed frustration with the current state of the hacking community, criticizing newcomers for relying on large language models to generate code they do not fully understand. He noted that his efforts over several months have been rendered ineffective by the premature disclosure of the vulnerability.
Despite the developer's exit, the PS5 Linux Loader project remains available on GitHub under the GPL 3.0 license. This allows other developers to clone the repository and continue the development work independently if they choose to do so.
