The author notes that in industrial automation, only one engineer in a team typically handles PID controller tuning. While the basic mechanics involve adjusting three parameters, the challenge lies in determining when to intervene or stop, as inexperienced engineers often mistakenly believe all issues can be solved through coefficient adjustments.
The author highlights that experienced engineers recognize when a PID controller has reached its limit, shifting focus to mechanical or sensor issues instead of endless tuning. This realization often comes from past mistakes and the experience of troubleshooting actual production equipment, which led to the creation of the PIDLAB.io training platform.
In a separate development, Carter Leffen of Bloomberg used the GPT-6 Astra model to decrypt a German military radio message, MVUEH, dated July 10, 1941. The message, containing 82 encrypted characters, had been part of the CryptoCellar project and had resisted decryption attempts since 2005, according to Enigma expert Frode Weierud.
Leffen tasked the GPT-6 Astra model in Extra High mode with analyzing unsolved messages from the CryptoCellar collection. The model required approximately ten hours to find the solution. The entire research process, including verification and source analysis, was conducted on September 14 and 15.
